Epidemiology of cholera outbreaks in Kinshasa city-province, Democratic Republic of the Congo, 2017-2024: a retrospective analysis

<p>Kinshasa has experienced recurrent cholera outbreaks. This retrospective analysis of surveillance data from 2017 to 2024 describes the spatiotemporal distribution of 8,432 suspected cases. Attack rates were highest in the health zones bordering the Congo River. Rainy season onset was strongly associated with outbreak peaks (r=0.71). Targeted water, sanitation and hygiene interventions in riverside health zones could prevent up to 60% of cases.</p>
